Williams Urges Community To Support Special Olympians

Member for Port Macquarie, Leslie Williams is urging the community to support our Special Olympics athletes in the lead up to the National Games in Melbourne in October.

“Nine Mid North Coast Special Olympics athletes will represent New South Wales in basketball, ten pin bowling and swimming.

“This is an outstanding achievement for these athletes who have been training hard for the National Games and I am encouraging the community to join with me in supporting their fundraising events,” Mrs Williams said.

On Saturday 12th April a Garage Sale will be held at Kenwood Drive, Lake Cathie to help raise the $3,300 each athlete will need to cover travel, accommodation and uniforms.

All donations of pre-loved items which are in good condition are also being sought for the garage sale as well as monetary contributions for the team.

The local Lake Cathie-Bonny Hills Lions Club are throwing their support behind the cause and will be there on the day with a BBQ and refreshments.

To date nine athletes have been named for the New South Wales squad including Haley Brown, Jennifer Davis and Christine Wheeler (Basketball), Glenn Ball, Jason Holley, Aiden Roughley, Adam Smith and Joshua Southgate (Tenpin Bowling) and Mitchell Hoppe in swimming.
