Williams Applauds Local Businesses Who Support Bravehearts

Member for Port Macquarie, Leslie Williams today congratulated local businesses and community organisations who have put their hands in their pockets to support Bravehearts.

“The statistics that reflect child sexual abuse in Australia are shocking with an estimated one in four girls and one in nine boys being subjected to sexual assault before they reach their 18th birthday.

“I want to congratulate Laing and Simmons who have joined other local businesses and organisations including MacDonalds and Rotary Sunrise who have recognised the importance of this issue and have come on board as a sponsor for the inaugural Breakfast event to be held next week.

“The people of Port Macquarie are renowned for their compassion and generosity and Laing and Simmons certainly reflect this community spirit,” Mrs Williams said.

“Like others in the community I was shocked when I heard the statistics about child sexual abuse and had no hesitation in offering my support to Bravehearts’ said Laing and Simmons Principal, Chris Koch.

Mrs Williams said, “As a parent I will do whatever I can to safeguard our young children from this appalling crime and support education programs that give them the skills and knowledge to protect themselves.

“Like the many other community members who have signed up to be a part of the Friends of Bravehearts Mid North Coast Committee I am impressed by the education program which is empowering our young children to protect themselves.

“I recently visited Port Macquarie Community Preschool to experience the ‘Ditto Keep Safe Adventure’ show and witnessed first-hand the excellent way that the clear message is delivered to children about how to stay safe,” Mrs Williams said.

The first local Friends of Bravehearts Mid North Coast fundraiser will be held next Friday 30th August at Panthers commencing at 6.45am.

I encourage everyone in the community to join us for breakfast and learn more about this important issue.

Tickets to the Bravehearts Breakfast cost just $30 per person and are available at Panthers. For further inquiries phone Louise on 65810518 or 0414 485 502.

Hetty Johnston the Founder and CEO of Bravehearts will be a guest speaker, along with David Munday from the NSW Primary Principles Association and local business woman Kylie Biltris.
