Safer Roads At Lake Cathie Public School
Minister for Roads and Freight, Duncan Gay and Member for Port Macquarie, Leslie Williams today announced $3 million would be invested to increase road safety near the future Lake Cathie Public School, with a new roundabout to be installed at the intersection of Ocean Drive and Houston Mitchell Drive.
"Ocean Drive is an important road link accessing the coastal growth areas south of Port Macquarie," Minister Gay said.
“This project is shovel ready and the funds have been reallocated from the Ocean Drive project to ensure these vital safety upgrades start this financial year.
"The NSW Government has provided this funding to ensure increased road safety for motorists as well as proper and safe access to the new school for students, staff and their families with improved traffic flow.”
Mrs Williams said the school was scheduled to open on day one of the first term of 2015 and safe access to the school site will be enhanced with the new roundabout.
"The community has been campaigning for this school which is well and truly on time with construction moving along quickly.
“This $3 million investment in road infrastructure will ensure safer access for all members of the school community,” Mrs Williams said.
"Temporary access arrangements will be in place to allow access until the roundabout is completed."
“Today’s announcement is another example of the State Government working with Local Government to achieve better results for our local community,” Mrs Williams said.
Port Macquarie-Hastings Council will carry out the work with tenders to build the roundabout to be invited later this year and work expected to start in early 2015.
