Premier Reaffirms Commitment to Keep Poles and Wires
MEMBER for Port Macquarie Leslie Williams has welcomed Premier Barry O’Farrell’s dismissal in Parliament yesterday of concerns the NSW electricity ‘poles and wires’ network will be sold off, guaranteeing the critical infrastructure will remain in public hands.
Responding to a question from the Opposition Leader during Question Time about whether the Premier would rule out the sale of the electricity distribution network (poles and wires), Mr O’Farrell answered with a clear and concise, “Yes”.
“The definitive response from the Premier reconfirms the Liberals & Nationals pre-election commitment not to sell the State’s ‘poles and wires,’ Mrs Williams said.
“The Premier’s answer was unequivocal and the people of Port Macquarie can remain confident that this important infrastructure will remain in public hands.
“The Premier’s answer will provide further comfort to the hundreds of people employed locally by Essential Energy, but also our local communities and individuals who were concerned that the future of this publicly owned infrastructure may have been in doubt.
While the union scare campaign continues I can reassure our community that our election commitment remains unchanged’ Mrs Williams said.
