More Social Housing For Port Macquarie
Port Macquarie is set to get more public housing with a multi-million housing development to be built.
The NSW Governments third Communities Plus Neighbourhood Projects package will include a site in Port Macquarie, Member for Port Macquarie, Leslie Williams, announced today.
The site in Grant and Gordon Streets, Port Macquarie, will be offered along with nine other locations in NSW through an Expression of Interest (EOI) to both not-for-profit Community Housing Providers (CHPs) and the private sector.
“This is a great win for our community. These sites will be redeveloped to deliver more social housing along with private and affordable housing,” Mrs Williams said.
“The current waiting time for social housing locally is more than 10 years so there is a very real need to increase stocks in our area.
“Community Plus will deliver much needed social housing that is well located and will provide social housing tenants with access to opportunities for education, training and local employment,” Mrs Williams said.
The ten sites as part of the Neighbourhood Projects will deliver an estimated 640 new private, social and affordable homes across New South Wales.
Neighbourhood Projects is a key part of the Communities Plus program and involves the redevelopment of small and medium sized Government owned social housing sites.
The EOI for Neighbourhood Projects Release 3 is now available.
