More People To Benefit From Elective Surgery Funding Boost
Member for Port Macquarie, Leslie Williams today announced that more people in the Mid North Coast Local Health District will now have quicker access to elective surgery, thanks to a $3 million injection by the State Government.
“This will mean that more people will get quicker access to common elective surgeries like hip and knee replacements at Port Macquarie Base Hospital for orthopaedic patients across the region,” Mrs Williams said.
“In September 2017, Minister for Health Brad Hazzard announced an injection of an extra $3 million so people can have surgery performed earlier.
“I am delighted that Mid North Coast’s bid was successful and will receive $490,000 to undertake these replacements.
According to recent BHI reports, the number of elective surgeries being performed on time in our region has increased under the NSW Government.

“This funding boost will make a big difference to a lot of people’s lives, allowing them to get their elective surgeries quicker and let them get on with their lives with improved mobility,” Mrs Williams said.
NSW has the best on-time elective surgery performance in the country. During 2016/17 more surgery was performed on time furthermore the average waiting time across all categories was sustained or reduced. This is despite NSW Health delivering more than 5,000 additional elective surgeries.
“While the average waiting time in NSW for these common procedures is generally met, this extra funding will mean people will have even quicker access,” Mrs Williams said.
