Minister Inspects Manning River
Member for Port Macquarie, Leslie Williams and Minister for Lands and Water, Kevin Humphries MP yesterday inspected areas of the Harrington Foreshore as well as the Manning River.
“I invited Minister Humphries to accompany me to carry out the inspections as well as to meet with a number of local groups to hear concerns first hand,” Mrs Williams said.
“One topic of discussion with members of the Harrington Action Group was the siltation build up in the Manning River and the possible need for a feasibility study to be undertaken.
“For years there have been suggestions that a southern break wall is needed at the mouth of the Manning River to reduce the sand build up and improve navigation of the river,” Mrs Williams said.
“Before any level of Government would consider supporting this idea a feasibility study would need to be carried out to see if it would actually provide a long term benefit to the Manning Valley.
“I will also be meeting with Greater Taree City Council in the near future and will discuss this proposal with them.
“Minister Humphries and I also met with Steve Atkins from the Manning Valley Chamber of Commerce regarding footpath and infrastructure improvements along the Harrington State Park.
“I will continue working with Minister Humphries, Crown Lands, Council and the Harrington/Crowdy Head community to identify the best options available to improve the Manning River and the Harrington Foreshore,“ Mrs Williams said.
