Minister For Mental Health Visits Port Macquarie Headspace
Member for Port Macquarie, Leslie Williams and Minister for Mental Health, Kevin Humphries will today visit the Port Macquarie Headspace centre.
The Headspace youth mental health service was established in Port Macquarie earlier this year.
Mrs Williams said, “The Headspace centre provides increased support to young people in areas such as mental health, physical health, alcohol and drug abuse, and social and vocational support.
“With one in four young people expected to have a mental health episode during their life, it is vitally important to provide increased access to youth specific mental health services.
“Headspace is one such service provider that is making a real difference in our community and I am very pleased that Minister Humphries can join me today to inspect the facility.
“I attending the official opening earlier this year and was impressed with the services on offer,” Mrs Williams said.
“The Headspace model is a good example of how local organisations can link up to increase access to mental health, drug and alcohol and other services for young people in a youth friendly setting.
“While Minister for Humphries is in the area, I am also taking him to visit the Laurieton Men’s Shed as well as the opening of a special mural at Mt Carmel House.
“The mural art work has been created by seniors and residents living with dementia,” Mrs Williams said.
