Mental Health Funding

Mental Health Funding

Member for Port Macquarie, Leslie Williams has today urged local organisations with innovative ideas to apply for a share in the $1.5 million Mental Health Innovation Fund.

Mrs Williams said the NSW Government’s Mental Health Innovation Fund is a way to find new, local initiatives that improve mental health services and outcomes across NSW.

“This Fund provides an opportunity for the best minds in business, the community sector and government to develop and deliver new and creative ways to help people living with mental illness,” Mrs Williams.

Collaborating partners may include start-ups, non-government organisations, the private sector, local businesses, carers or individuals working alongside all levels of government.

“The Liberal and National Government is committed to seeing more people living well in the community. We know fresh approaches like these lead to better outcomes for those living with a mental illness while also reducing admissions in our public hospitals.

“I am pleased local organisations will have the opportunity to showcase new approaches to improve mental health services across the state.

“By funding these ideas, we can enhance the way we deliver person-centred care that focuses on consumers, particularly at the community level,” Mrs Williams said.

Expressions of interest for the second round are now open, with target innovation areas including:
  • Mental health and intellectual disability/cognitive impairment
  • Aboriginal mental health
  • Mental health and youth homelessness
  • Adult education
  • Child and youth mental health
The Innovation Fund aligns with the Government’s commitment to Living Well, the Mental Health Commission’s 10-year road map to transform mental health services.

The first round of the Innovation Fund has been finalised and the projects will be announced shortly. Expressions of Interest for Round Two of the Innovation Fund close on 9 May 2017.
