Member for Port Macquarie Encourages Recognition Of Grandparents
Member for Port Macquarie, Leslie Williams today encouraged local residents to show their appreciation for grandparents by nominating theirs or someone else’s for this year’s NSW Grandparent of the Year Awards.
“Grandparents play a significant role in our homes and our community,” Mrs Williams said.
“Many grandparents are unpaid carers, while others may still work or volunteer in the community. Whatever it may be, their commitment to support their families and local community is invaluable, and this is a great opportunity to recognise them.
“I urge everyone, whether you’re a grandchild or someone who is simply thankful for the priceless role older Australians play in our society, to celebrate them by nominating someone for an award,” Mrs Williams said.
Nominations for the Grandparent of the Year Awards will close on Friday, 26 September. The categories are:
Grandparent Carer of the Year Community Grandparent of the Year Grand Friend of the Year
Grandparents Day was launched in 2011 by the NSW Liberals & Nationals Government to recognise the unique role that grandparents play in our community.
