Member for Port Macquarie, Leslie Williams has announced that Roads and Maritime Services will complete improvement work at the roundabout of the Oxley Highway and Pacific Highway to improve traffic flow.
“Line marking adjustments will be made at the roundabout in the week starting this Saturday 23 May to ease traffic congestion in the area.
“A new lane will be added to the eastbound section of the roundabout to reduce congestion caused by Oxley Highway traffic giving way to traffic exiting the Pacific Highway towards Port Macquarie,” Mrs Williams said.
“I have been working with RMS and the Minister for Roads to ensure we help reduce congestion at the gateway to Port Macquarie.
“Congestion at the intersection will be further reduced when the new Sancrox interchange opens.
“The $30 million new interchange will open to traffic in July as part of the 37 kilometre Oxley Highway to Kempsey Pacific Highway upgrade.”
Mrs Williams said detours at Sancrox Road and Fernbank Creek Road will remain in place until the new intersection opens.
“Recent wet weather and localised flooding has significantly delayed work on the Sancrox interchange roundabouts,” Mrs Williams said.
“Roads and Maritime has been unable to complete concrete paving or seal the road surface.
“To allow work on the interchange to be completed the local road closures must remain in place until July.
“I thank residents and businesses for their ongoing patience.”
“Despite the recent poor weather conditions progress has still be made on some elements of the interchange including the bridge deck and girder placement.
“Work will continue in coming weeks on the bridge deck and stormwater drainage,” Mrs Williams said.
