Have A Staycation This Year
Member for Port Macquarie, Leslie Williams is encouraging local residents to have a ‘staycation’ this year and rediscover what our area has to offer.
“While many people go away for the holidays, for those of us staying at home it is the perfect time to do as the tourists do without the added expense of paying for accommodation,” Mrs Williams said.
“Holidaying in your own backyard is a great opportunity to visit the places you don’t usually have the time to do.
“Whether it is a drive in the mountains to the hinterland areas of Comboyne and Lorne, exploring the fishing villages of Harrington and Crowdy Bay or visiting attractions closer to home in the Hastings and Camden Haven there is so much to do here on the coast,” Mrs Williams said.
“Our region has so much to offer with many free and inexpensive activities including visiting the maritime or historical museums, the Sea Acres Rainforest Centre, go fishing in the Camden Haven River or even learn to surf at Flynns Beach in Port Macquarie.
“Of course we even have some of the finest beaches and waterways in NSW right on our doorstep for a cooling swim,” Mrs Williams said.
“For people holidaying at home you can spend as little or as much as you want visiting the many fine cafes and restaurants we have in the area just as you would if you went away on holidays.
“A ‘staycation’ can be just as exciting as going away without the added headache of dealing with highway traffic.
“So instead of just sitting at home watching the cricket this summer, why not get out and experience what thousands of visitors pay good money to come here to enjoy, only it’s in our very own backyard,” Mrs Williams said.
